About Us

Friends of Disabled Veterans in Carroll County was established in 2017 by current Executive Director, Bill Murphy and his colleague Roy Lipton. It was the brainchild of the late Mike "Maddog" Sater.

There are approximately 12,000 veterans in Carroll County. The majority of local veterans are over the age of 65 and 10% are in need of wheelchair service.

Friends of Disabled Veterans in Carroll County provides free, door to door service to non-emergency medical and dental appointments for local U.S. Military Veterans and their spouses who do not drive and do not have other means to get to their appointment. This allows us to serve more veterans in need.

Our service is for medical and dental appointments only. This does not include therapy sessions. Our drivers do wait at the facility until the appointment is complete.

Currently we have four handicap accessible vans. All drivers are volunteers that have gone through background checks and are CPR and AED certified. Each van is equipped with an AED machine. We travel locally within Carroll County as well as Frederick County, Baltimore City, Washington DC, Adams County, Pennsylvania and Martinsburg, West Virginia.

"Our veterans have done a lot for us and it is time to give back to our veterans."

- Bill Murphy, Executive Director, Friends of Disabled Veterans in Carroll County

Friends of Disabled Veterans in Carroll County is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization of the Community Foundation of Carroll County.
